Tips and Tricks of flatbedding

I hear ya on that. I've picked up some pretty nasty stuff in Jobsites and steel yards. Like I said though it's a benifit to the a gamer but just makes the steering wheel holder lazier. Just like tire pass. Mostly I see megas in there. I used it a few times but won't anymore. The last time I used it I pulled right in to a speedco and they told me my tire pressures were all over the charts. I pulled out my guage and one tire was down to about 85 psi and another over 110.

 

What's a tire pass?

 

A gimmick loves started a couple years ago. 10 bucks to air your tires up. I use on occasion with the free credits they send out for doing a short survey. It's a joke tho. I keep hoping to find a tech that has a clue but haven't yet. They give you this printed up form of all your tread depth measurements. The idiots haven't gotten it right once. The form will show a 6/32nds tire next to a 20/32nds with a big red warning saying you need to buy tires that match up in tread. Funny thing, yes i got 8 tires about 6/32nds....on the trailer and my 8 drives are at 20/32nds. Freaking morons don't even know how to input the data right.

What's even funnier is when they use that printed form to try to sell you tires and you point to the tires on the truck and say "do these look mixmatched?" But he holds up his paper and keeps going on about how it says they are.

I get how even the best of us can make a mistake putting data in, but ####, some of us have the common freaking sense to see that it was obviously an error. And is not just tire techs. It's every where, in all walks of life. The ability to think and reason is almost extinct in our society.

 

I carry a pair of essential salesman tools in my toolbox...

Thinking is a Art that most have a problem with. ..unfortunately I don't see it getting better in the future

 

I've tried searching this topic and haven't found much. Just curious if the method of using a half hitch through the winch is common. legal/illegal? certain states?

Comes in handy when unloading and pulling a Conestoga.

Going into second week solo so still a little hazy on some things.

 

Your tying your straps in a half hitch?

 

I always feed the strap through the winch and fold the access and pinch it when I tighten it down.

During training I was shown a different method. leave about a foot or two excess then make a fold and put the fold into the winch and tighten it up. Wasn't sure how common of a practice it was since I've noticed doing deliveries other drivers do it to.

 

I don't think it really matters how you secure your excess straps, as long as it's secure and won't come loose.

 

Man i must be tired... as long as you dont half strap, it doesn't matter how you tie off your slack, like others said..
