Every morning at work , We fill in a vehicle inspection book after our daily checks.
However I was talking to one truck driver today ... Who said
Quote : " If you use a tachograph disk ... by law you dont have to fill in your drivers book"
Can anyone confirm this please.

it depends on what the tachograph records. If it records time and place, then he may be right. Take a look at FMCSR 395.15
If you are a local driver - leave from your terminal and return there each night (and go off duty), the existence of a tachograph is probably immaterial since you'd not fall under HOS rules anyway. -
I don't think he is covered by FMCSA regs. He lives in England. -
That's not true. All a clockchart tells you is when the truck is moved, how fast, and for how long. They come no where near the information required on log books. Most companies that run tachographs are within the 100 air mile rule so if you are then yes he is right. That is as long as the company follows all what they are required to do too. Anytime anyone tells you it's a law please ask him or her for a reference.

ouch! slap me with a wet fish. I didn't even think to check that.

The wording threw me. Only reason I checked.

I work for the local council and start /return in the same yard every day so suppose we are in the 100 air mile rule.
thanks for your help i'm wales from by the way. -
+1
We had tachographs and still had to fill out logbooks. I realize you being across the pond might change things, but, like GH said, I would ask for a reference and check for yourself. It's the best way to be sure and keep out of trouble.
