There was no loading coil losses involved with the copper pipe.
The thicker diameter pipe added capacitance which required shortening the pipe to make it resonant.
It transmitted just fine but he noticed it picked up less noise than the stainless steel whip antenna.

best I know of they build it themselves.... haven't been in there in quite awhile.... kinda weird shop. the old man owns it and does the repair work and tweekee/pekeee deal. the son opens the shop in the morning and sleeps in the recliner till daddy comes to work. in the early late afternoon time.... strange !!!

That guy Tony and Albuquerque was one of those idiots that worked on radar equipment in the Navy and he thought that that would impress his customers and add to his credentials but he couldn't tune a radio to save his own life. He finally had to resort to making vinyl graphics for radio faceplates in order to pay his bills.bored silly Thanks this.
