One can only hope that with our new POTUS stepping up to the plate that opportunities will start to pop up, and I know i'll be keeping an eye out for them, but in the meantime I am looking for a bit of advice on what to look for, and what a rookie like me should settle for as far as pay. As I stated before, I have no idea what I am getting into, but I know I want to get my hands in on the profit, I am willing to travel, move, whatever it takes to take care of the families I am already struggling to support. Any leads would be awesome. PM or post, doesn't matter to me. Thanks in advance!

I left Midland 4 months ago when we went from 70 hours per week to 35. My old yard has picked up since then from what I hear and the few drivers left are getting all the hours they can legally work. That said, until oil prices stabilize a rookie will most likely have a hard time getting hired. When oil was $100/bbl anyone with a cdl and a pulse could get hired (I was one of them). I'm not trying to discourage you, I'm just sharing what I observed during my 5 years out there.
xlsdraw, Dharok, rabbiporkchop and 1 other person Thank this. -

I ran vac and kill trucks for C&J Energy (formerly Nabors Well Services). It was a good company for me, strong on safety. They won't let you play any games with HOS or oil field exemptions, so once you hit 70 hrs you'll have to take a 24 hr reset. There are smaller companies that play fast and loose with the rules, so you can find them if that's what you want.

Six months there was enough for me. It's probably better now that it's slowed down a bit, but going full swing that place is mental. Daily fatal crashes, 75mph two lane roads for miles (with cars doing 80+ and workover rigs doing 40).
If you can do more than hold a steering wheel and breath I would recommend going elsewhere. -
Obscenely . ...I mean rectally invasive rent cost. When I was there 2 1/2 yrs ago...@ 15+ hrs OT per week....$850 for a crappy FEMA trailer was a good deal.
Buy your own RV would be my suggestion .rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
And then it's only $400 a month for a spot to park it.
