on my ser 60 detroit the w,p, went out inpeller spinning on the shaft. 1st time I ever heard a det doing that, 1st on my truck anyway. could that cause coolant to get in oil?

If the seal is bad on the pump yes. I have seen it fairly regular. Usually you can look down thru there with a good light while the pump is off and see the trail.

    Oxbow and heavyhaulerss Thank this.

just wondering, still chasing a coolant in oil leak, when the w.p. went out, I wondered if this could be the source. sent oil out before the w.p. was changed. on that sample coolant was found in oil. just serviced truck hoping the next sample will come back clear of coolant.

I dont see how it could.
There is a cavity between the oil side and the water side. This cavity has a weep hole just for that reason. If your seal on either the oil side or WATER side leaks it will come out the weep hole .

Just dont see how a water pump can put coolant in the oil.

Unless the weep hole is plugged up completely but thats highly unlikely

yeah, pretty good size weep hole to keep the mingling from happening, and to alert you of a bad seal.

you have a '95 right? water pump on the back side of the timing cover?

I agree it doesn't seem it could but it sure will. The older DDEC II seems alot worse at it than the III and IV. Had a IV last year that the air compressor was putting water in the oil bad. Way we found the water pumps do it was pressure them up with the pan off.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

pressure test reveals NO leaks. been chasing this for almost a year now. new compressor on too, unless the new compressor was defective.
