After seven years away from the industry I am getting ready to head back. Unfortunately it has been long enough that it looks like I am going to be starting fresh. Oh joy, another trip down trainer lane lol. I figure it should not be too bad though. I know what to expect. I know what games are going to be played, and the level of bs that goes on during the initial phase. I am trying to get my cdl back so I can just go through a refresher course versus a full on student course but we will see. Worse comes to worse I am going to make a trainer very happy lol.

Any ideas where you want to work?
Put your location on your profile so we know the hiring area you live in.
Welcome back; it's a great career!

Not sure yet. I'm looking at going with CRST again. That is where I originally started. I'm also looking into Prime as well. I'm in the San Diego area, so there are plenty of options as far as training companies go. Figure I'll get back into it and then reevaluate once I have current experience.

Jim Palmer Trucking is a good place to start.
Freymiller might take you; they usually hire with a 5 yr. gap but sometimes go further back. You will need your cdl though before they hire you.

Thank you I'll check them out. One option I have is to "move" back to Oregon and get my cdl back there. Since it was less than three years ago all I'd have to do is pay the fees and present a dot card, but not sure if my move to cali screwed that up. I'll be checking when I go visit my folks in the next couple weeks.

Your cdl address will have to match your domicile address.
For example, if you get a new cdl at Jim Palmer Trucking, it will be a Montana cdl with Jim Palmer Trucking address, then when you return home to San Diego you must switch the cdl to a California cdl.
KKW Trucking will hire you with no schooling as long as you have a cdl.

As we all know, anytime the federal government gets involved, every issue becomes complicated.

Yes I understand that, but just as I would switch from MT to CA I could switch OR to CA after training/refresher. Thank you for the advice.

Western Express no longer has a cdl school. If it's still on the website, then the website hasn't been updated.
