This happens to me as well but it has to be a very bad week which in this year i had many. I would make about 300 more a week can a company driver. But my fuel cost is about $80 bucks a week. In the 8 months i been running for this company i only put 6k miles on my truck. My truck payments are $800 a month. My operating costs is much less. During this season since the holidays are coming i am making about $1700- $2500. Which is not that great but i am seeing home times each day and hadnt passed a scale in months. We have on site dot inspection every 3 months. But during slow seasons i do see only $300 more then company drivers.

 

I live and operate out of Oregon. Only run WA, OR & CA.

My running average for fuel in 2016 is 24% of my gross revenue and that includes OR PUC & IFTA. I choose to stay on the west coast, thus I pay a higher % in OR PUC by virtue of running through OR a lot.

 

24% is much higher than it used to be. I pulled a 9 axle lowbed in 2001 and I recall the IFTA Quarter report from July 1 to September 30 my fule costs were just under 10% of my Revenue.

 

Yes, that's true. In 2001 I was also 15 years younger than I am right now too

Never never never buy another truck hoping it will solve money issues. I played this game and it sucks! Your driver's truck will break down far more than yours and you don't have the safety met to float it if it does.
