$1,000 a week net is where I have to be if I'm working a job that requires living in a truck for weeks on end. I can deal with a little bit of fluctuation from that every once in awhile or this week being $600 and next week being $1,400 due to paperwork getting turned in past the cutoff or something like that, but for the most part I want to be at that mark if I'm giving up my quality of life to do a job. Whether a company calls $800 of that mileage pay and $200 of it detention pay, or if they just want to call it all mileage pay and no detention makes me no difference.

IRT is the only place that I have. Granted I've only worked for 3 or 4 companies in the last 10 years and a few of them were local. I think the oilfield will pick up after Trump gets in DC. Running local is nice. I leave out about 545am and get finished around 5pm. I do it 6 days a week and have Saturday's off. I park at Walmart 4 miles from my house and just drive my pickup to and from my semi every day. I think I'm going to hit 42K this year. Now the downside... My entire day is a complete rush. No time to stop and eat a decent meal, truck is a little International day cab with half a million miles on it that beats your back to death all day long, appointment times on both ends as well as a trailer relay in the afternoon with another driver so it's a ball of fire trying to rush non stop. I catch myself blowing yellow lights, rolling thru stop signs, and it's just a monotonous deal. Same route every day, 6 days a week, for 2 years now. Yeah, I'm home at night, but I'm usually exhausted from being up since 430am and running around like a mad man. When I was OTR things were different. I had a big, beautiful truck, a nice wealthy, well managed company (IRT), I had a different route every day, I could stop at the Iron Skillet and relax and eat a decent meal for 30 minutes or an hour if I wanted, etc... The money was better too, although the things I named above are a big part of why I'm looking to switch. It's hard giving up a local gig with a nice schedule, but I need a break from the rat race.

Yea i tried doing local at Pepsi. It was rough to say the least. Yea being home and exhausted really lowers the quality of time lol... I'm hoping for Trump to get the ball rolling in the right direction... I'd love to be making 1500+ a week (gross)

A Driver friend just went to orientation, he said new trucks are automatics, pay is 1-250 miles =24% 251-400 miles =.47cpm loaded, .41 empty, everything else is .41 loaded and empty.

I don't mind sitting as long as I get $15-20 per hour or 75+ per day of layover.. if not I do mind it.

I will tell you what you will get, $0.00. Ask any IRT driver. Some milk haulers get around $8 or maybe $10 per hr after 3 or 4 hours. The response from the trucking company sounds like this, "well you got to take your 10 hr break anyway"

Let me warn you way ahead of time. And if you drive for IRT, you will probably wind up in Nashville, Tn at Dean's Butter Plant. You will have an appointment, appointments mean nothing! It is the order you go thru the gate. During the day, they receive milk, at night they take cream. They are supposed to start on the cream around 7pm, I have been there when they are still pumping milk at 11pm. I have been the #1 cream truck and did not get out there until midnite. I have seen cream trucks held over until the next day because they quit pumping cream and start washing the lines and silos, getting ready for the milk trucks. I hate the #### place.

I sit at Murray, Ky with a load of cream over 33 hours one trip, because the silos were full and I fell in line about #10.
Two Christmases ago, I sit in Glasgow, Ky 24 hrs. They were full when I arrived and I was #13 in line. When I left 24 hours later, there were 23 trucks still there trying to get unloaded.

Welcome to the world of milk hauling.
