I prefer to eliminate the middleman, meaning me. Let the social workers and churches deal with the scumbags. I know there are programs out there to help the homeless and if they're begging from you it's because they don't want to deal with the system. No sympathy here.

Social services won't buy people beer, and be realistic, if you were homeless, do you want bumfeed or do you want beer? I'll give someone money as long as they tell me a series of jokes or entertain. As a social Darwinist, I think the pathetic should starve for the good of the gene pool . Some panhandlers are just Kerouac wannabes, I say give those young folks a few bucks, they don't stay homeless forever.

    One of my favorites:

'You don't really want change do you? What you want is money. And i can't help with either.'

If they are hungry I'll buy them something to eat. I always have water on hand if they're thirsty. I stopped giving out cash a good while ago, every now and then though someone will manage to pluck one of my heart strings and I'll fork some money over.

There is a lot of judgement in here, you don't know their story. I like to hope for the best man; every one of those people you see out there asking for money is someone's kid. And yeah a bunch of them are lazy, or scamming. But a lot of them aren't. Imagine having to swallow your own pride cause you were slowly starving on the side of the road in a place you aren't familiar with. You finally work up the nerve to ask someone you don't know for help and instead they treat you like wet dog poop. I'm not saying you should hand anything out, I'm just saying that they're still people and you should treat them like it.

Dharok, Ooops, Ruthless and 1 other person Thank this.

And you think someone who is "slowly dying of starvation" just finds their way to a truck stop? They are someomes kid? No ####. Who cares? Ya know how many times i got a #### you for responding with ill buy you food but i wont give you money? Ya dont want to know. (And im local!) Ive been asked for a dollar, and upon giving said dollar been met with, i know you have more, now give me 20. Save your charity for church. Im not judging them or how they got there. I dont care. All the free cash in the world wont make them spend in on housing or food. Is it sad? Sure, for the real ones. But from churches to city programs to day labor companies to hospitals ect.. there are options out there that dont involve playing the pity game for pennies. I was being a smart ### when i made my i give beatings post. Truth is, i make my decision before they even ask. Mostly i just shake my head, i wont even speak to them. Its not a attempt to ignore thier existence, or belittle thier position. Im just not the person to help. Maybe you are. Good for you. Go right ahead. I wont even tell you not to.

Not once , in my lifetime, has anyone begging for money to buy food EVER taken me up on my offer to buy them dinner or groceries. NOT. ONE.
Every single one has always asked for the money instead

One of my drivers was sitting in a truck stop on the east coast somewhere, he said some family came up to him and asked for money. He talked to them for a good 20 minutes then out of the blue asked them with a straight face " I hate to ask you guys this but I haven't eaten in two days, you got anything you can give me like $10?"

    They walked away.
