Saying good bye was meant on the pictures Cat sdp posted.
Some companies indeed run trailer or steer tires on the drives. They have a lower rolling resistance and save fuel. They also come with disadvantages, like you mentioned.
It's depending where the OP is operating. Like I said, to run them in the south might not be the biggest issue, up north it will be.

This thread is a complete indictment on the trucking industry. So many $35,000 a year rookie steering wheel holders DEMAND new equipment, home every weekend, satellite radio, etc.... One thing I can say with absolute certainty is that 100% of the whiney little noobs that cry their first day on the job, end up in another industry eventually. The guys who show up and say "whatever it takes to get loads delivered... Im willing to do it". THOSE are the guys who end up with their own truck or driving (eventually) for a great company that everyone wants to work for... But starting your career making $80K home every night and driving a new truck on day one... LOL, good luck Buttercups!
BTW, my first three years driving (1989 to 1991), I was in a 1969 cabover Pete with an A.M radio and no AC (I went to Blythe and Needles every week). How many Buttercups would do that today?

    Guntoter has a point.

Regarding the tires, I still stand by my maxim, new set all around first ice every year. I could care less about the equiptment provided everything on it, in it, attached to it or whatever is 100% mechanically and electrically. I actually prefer older iron to the modern clouds they issue the so called 35K a year newbie.

I think the Industry collectively should be indicted on it's on time demands, forgettting that at one time we used to have two weeks to get to California as singles and the Economy is unnecessarily JIT everywhere. And the pay structure based on miles to the Professional is a cause for famine for some. We are not eating 1940's meals where eggs and bacon cost 1.50 and coffee .35 cents anymore it's more like 20 dollar a meal out there retail.

Yes for every 100 who wanna drive truck in 10 years or more about 10 remain in the industry for a variety of losses including maiming, death etc. (And DAC, PSP, etc etc etc) those 10, half are top drivers will demand and recieve top pay as I did once upon a time in my day, #### near .50 a mile to me team, and another roughly .28 to the spouse. That's close to .80 a mile. Not everyone is going to get that. Give it another... 15 or 20 inflated years.

I have no problem with those tires from what I can see in the photo. I have ran worse.

Even in CAT's photo those tires would be good enough for me if I could get away with them. Now they are illegal but I would not call them unsafe. And chances are the only issue you would have with them is the ticket you would get after an inspection. The tires will not alert an inspection if it wasn't for the dozen other things wrong with the truck that CAT pictured. You could role over a scale every day for 20,000 miles and never get sighted for those tires if there wasn't any other issues with the truck.

Just another point of view to consider. Like i said I have run tires worse then that through NW winters where chain requirements are up every day and I don't like to chain but still make it to my destination on time.

Just saying, I see way to many "drivers" throwing hissy fits about tires when the whole rest of the truck has more issues that will get them nailed other then tires.
