It is not a big deal to produce a Cascadia glider with the non emission drivetrain. The Cascadia's for export, depending on the regulation for the destination country are equipped with brand new 12.7's ( yes they are still in production). All of the trucks Daimler produces as gliders are sold as complete export trucks at whatever level of emission that country requires, and lots of them don't require any.
Glider kit opinions?

Interesting. I didn't know, most I've ever done was 5 year on a $225,000cdn unit. Payment sucked! That's a oilfield truck with the pump and loads of extras mind you.

Things have changed a lot. Last new truck I bought was a 96 379. I bought it for $96,000. Put $12,000 down and my payments were something like $2,200/ month for 48 months. Not pulling cheap paying freight, allows you to actually afford that payment and still have a life
If you save up $20,000-$30,000 to put down or buy an older truck keep it in good shape and trade up over the years. The guys who get in trouble either get into a flease deal or want that new truck right now. Run an older truck learn the business side of trucking and save your butt off.
*edit
I should mention that fuel was $.96/ gal and the going rate from the mega's was $.80/mile. I was making $1.25/mile running teams.Last edited: Nov 28, 2016
Steinbrenner Thanks this. -
I spoke with a USDOT through their FAQ hotline 202-366-4000. After several calls and several hours of questioning... ELD's are unable to plug into an ECM older than 1998 because most of them did not count actual driving time. miles, idle time, etc... They only counted key starts and total engine hours, also, they have no clock on them so you don't know what time I started the truck or how long it ran on that particular key start (my 6NZ falls into that category). In order to calculate all of the information needed to give to DOT, the ELD manufacturers need all of that information. It will be impossible for them to know if Im rolling or not by reading my engine hours. Thats why older trucks are exempt from the new law.
USDOT said they are working with ELD manufacturers to incorporate GPS into the technology, at that point they will probably eliminate the older truck exemption. That is several years away so I'll enjoy my freedom as long as I can.blacklabel Thanks this. -
Just curious why you would run a straight 6NZ? Why not a 6NZ head with 5EK intake/turbo/exhaust on an Acert block? You get the best of everything... power, economy, dependability, and oh yeah POWER!blacklabel Thanks this.

To be honest, I was out of the industry during that whole period, so I stopped following everything. So I'm a little behind what power options were offered.Guntoter Thanks this.

Isn't a glider basically a new truck but with an overhauled engine? At one point in its life that block already probably has 1 million on it.
-
6NZ are from the years 2000-2002. It's a moot point anyway as your truck is a 2013 and subject to the EOBR regs.
-
You are absolutely wrong if you have a 6nz you must make it computerized it has the capability of tracking movement and login hours you will have to pay to upgrade it just like owner operators have to pay to install the elog computer

Call ooida they will explain the rules to you very clearly
