Either ch19 or ch1. As I post above, many OTR truckers use VHF because of the idiocy on the regular CB channels. If you are a 4 wheeler, the truckers my be ignoring you or are on SSB. On the other hand, the 40 ch. CB radio usage has dropped in the past several years. If you happen to drive through the Rossland Trail area, give Snow Walker a call.

In three years the only thing I found the CB useful for was keeping an egg McMuffin warm.

I drove a rental/loaner from a dealership while my 2015 truck was getting built, it had a CB in it, I left it on for 2 months ch 19. Not a single sound.

Cell phones and sat radio keeps the radio chatter to a minimum these days. If the roads are really bad LADD 1 will have drivers warning each other of anything you need to know.

Do you need a license for VHF radios?

Yes, except for low-power and/or FRS radios (IIRC).

I monitor Ch 19 in the Rossland BC and quite frequently have brief chats with the truckers who are going through town. Most truckers don't care to chat with four wheelers because most don't know when to shut up. With that being said, I would guess that at least 50% of OTRs have CBs in their trucks. I find the best time to chat with a trucker is late at night. They do enjoy a light chat now and then.
