    Hi all.

Sitting here trying to get everything going with the paperwork for my reefers.

I have a buddy we went to college together he works for a steel company

He pays flatbed drivers Flower Mound Tx to Jonesboro ar about 500 miles 700 with 6ft tarps. He said drivers eat that up. He does about 20 loads a day.

With me being new to OTR and always driving reefer how do those flatbed guys stay in business? That seems really low am I wrong?

Not to insult anyone but just seemed low

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

It's low, but that also depends on what your expense are.
You also didn't mention the back haul from AR back to DFW. It should pay more than $1.40/mi.

It would be a decent rate if you don't have to pay for trailer, or insurance, and other small expenses that eat away at profit margin, and have a good back haul.
Get all the details then crunch the numbers.

I don't know the AR market much at all but I do know TX outbound rates are typically always very LOW, LOW, LOW so the money maker better be coming out of AR or that is a big LOSER of a round.

While dfw is a crap market, that's an insulting low rate. Bottom of the barrel guys might eat those loads up, but he wont get a dependable quality carrier for that rate.

Simple, they find a mega company that pays the driver cheap. 40 cents per mile or so

How would they afford to pay a driver that when they barely make 1.40 on the load as is. What about operating costs and so on. Sounds crazy. But you could be write sir

This is why I am sticking with reefer. Wisconsin to Florida is paying almost 3 mile not to bad

That seems like a good rate going in, but what is your backhual rate going out? or how far do you deadhead to get a good rate to get back? I've heard Florida is not great for rates leaving florida, hence the good rate going in. But I am not a O/O so I have no experience, heck I'm not even a driver yet. I will be soon.

Wow that is cheap. Last time I went to DFW I got 4.5 out to AR. It was a good rate especially as I got 4 coming in out of MI. I would never see rates that low as I would NEVER haul it.
