If you're driving for mileage pay and being held to 60mph and you could be driving for a company that run 65 miles per hour then I would say yes you are the idiot.

Anyone that drives for mileage pay with an open deck isn't thinking real hard.

I know there are some exceptions but they are few and far between.

I started with Melton and would recommend them.

Things I really like about Melton that most companies do not do were

    1. They reimburse you for pay parking. (No questions asked on your next pay check).

Pay to park spots and lots are usually the easiest to park in and fill up last.

I know I was thankful when I first went on my own.
Tired from unloading and loading then driving 600 miles, only spot left was tight to get into between two long nose Peterbilts.
I went to the nice easy spot in the front and payed to park. Melton payed me back and I never created an insurance claim.

    2. They reimburse for showers. Park at an independent you obviously don't have a shower credit. You pay and scan your receipt in and
they pay you back next check.

    3. Replace a light bulb on your own. Send in receipt they reimburse no questions asked.

A lot of companies want you to either carry their light bulbs or take it to the truck stop and have them fix it. (Waiting on a truck stop minimum of an hour or 2 mins on your own.)

Other then that most companies are very similar and share the same customers. If you want to be home every week or really even every two Melton is not the company.

That's a pretty ignorant thing to say.

Mileage pay can be just fine, if it's high enough

Then you might want to revise and say that driving for inadequate pay is stupid. I see a lot of people talking abouto mileage pay vs percentage pay, at the end of the day, 35,000 a year is 35,000 a year, and 80,000 a year is 80,000 a year. You don't magically get more pay by being paid by a different pay scheme, it all depends on the rates, whether they are mileage, percentage, hourly, whatever, the pay can be good or it can be bad.

My only response to the poster saying that people laughed at other drivers for going 60 or whatever they are doing, not for the amount of money they were making.I have been driving for 30 years and have not "LAUGHED" one time because somebody had to drive 60 miles an hr, its none of my business and I have better things to worry about.

Ok here some basics. If you want to learn flatbed, Melton will pay your way (greyhound) to Tulsa, and pay you for orientation, put you in a nice hotel and continue to pay if you get on a trainer truck. You get excellent no-nonsense and overly-safe securement training. Then if you stay on you begin at .41 per mile, $20 tarp, $20 untarp, $25 for additional stops, they pay hourly detention pay if you are stuck at a shipper over 2 hours. Miles and weekly pay can vary. My lowest check was $400 and my highest was $1400. After 3 months tou get .43 per mile. After 1 year you make .48. Health coverage and dental are excellent, they begin at 90 days. There are also bonuses for good mpg driving habits, tuition reimbursement, and hire-on bonuses. Ive never had an issue getting home on the exact day I want. My pay and reimbursements are always correct.

Melton describes their workplace as a "family" but other drivers are hit and miss as far as friendly or helpful. Melton has driver-facing cameras. They only come on for 20 seconds when you cause a unsafe driving situation. The camera changes from green light to red so you know. Ive personally set my camera off 50+ times in 6 months and Ive only received 2-3 messages about safe distance and speed. I give Melton a B+. I never laugh when I see a prime truck. They may have similar pay and training.

Well, it wouldn't have been a big deal if you hadn't felt the need to phrase it as an insult. If you said that most flatdeck jobs on mileage pays are a bad deal, then fine, I can disagree with you or not. When you say that anyone doing open deck on mileage pay isn't thinking real hard, then you're just asking for drama.
