A shield is used with a continuous miner mainly. Multiple shields may be set up for 600-1000 feet maybe more, it hydraulically supports the roof giving the miner a safe area to walk and work. After making a couple cuts the shield ( one at a time) release pressure against the roof and a kicker / or leg will hydraulically advance the shield forward, then extend back up against the roof. Each shield will move like this as the miner keeps cutting through the seem. I left the road for a short while and started rebuilding the control valves, as well as bench testing them to 5000psi. Also rebuilt the filter boards as they are called, which most are a 3/4" plate with the filters mounted across it. My Cousin owned the company. The war in coal as it is called killed the job of being home every day. That is a finger valve I had tore apart, I'm using the pen as size reference to an O-ring. Finger valve operated the check valves, check valves operated the cylinders. Don't know if any of my blabbering helps but, I tried lol. Be safe out there.

We have a 40' conex / sea container at the csx yard just above the State Dock where tools are stored. There is a pipe yard just about 2 miles away, don't know if the export it but see a lot of it on the rail cars. Heading up Mobile river this morning, love my Carrharts lol. That is the 90 bridge in the background. Be safe out there.

@OLDSKOOLERnWV I think I got the jist of it. I actually googled it and seeing the shields extended, it clicked in my head what they are for.

I pull a flat with a condo crapcadia. Don't see why I gotta be all cramped in a tiny bunk just to pull a flatbed. The last flattop I drove was a 1991 FLD 120 with a 70" flattop, in 1993/1994. And was pulling a reefer then.

Its not the most practical application,.. I wont own another condo thats for sure.
