My avatar is the ring that Elvis Presley wore, with diamonds spelling the letters "TCB" (Take Care of Business). It's a lesson I drilled into my trainees. For example, if you wake up after a good night's sleep but have no dispatch, then TCB and get back in bed. You need to be able to run if you get that dispatch at 6:00 pm to run overnight. Don't be the YouTube Princess whining about getting that late afternoon dispatch after you have been up all day playing video games.

Well that requires additional equipment for safety, like kneepads.

That's true, the first time his dm tells him to swap loads with the other new guy in Phoenix, he will definitely need all the experience he can get. Hopefully his mentor provides him with the proper training. Should this new guy buy the kneepads with the velcro straps? What does Swift require?

Just WAY too many times at Swift terminals I saw "drivers" with big flat screen monitors set up to take advantage of free Wi-Fi in the terminal. I talked to a few of them when taking a smoke break. Without fail they complained about low miles and small paychecks, tied to the comment, "Well they can't expect me to run all night if I have been up all day!"

After four years in the truck I don't even like to watch a movie until I am on a 34. Linear entertainment sucks you in to push it past when you can fall asleep. Video games are even more powerful to suck you into not sleeping. If I am sleepy, that's the time to turn out the lights and TCB.

Trust me I am on a Battlefield war team with a lot of vets and have a good time but I've missed a few games because I gotta earn a living. Sad people don't get that anymore!
