Hi,
Edit: The inexperienced Schneider website has a link to the PWS PDF. I posted it here and it was deleted and I got a 10 point infraction.
As of a month ago it was exactly what they did.
For your heart rate they use a thing on your finger that detects your heart rate and oxygen level. Honestly on mine my heart rate was pretty high before I started. Then it went up, and then as the test continued it started dropping.
Now on to my progress and responses:
Storyteller, I didn't feel picked on or anything. I would rather hear the truth than what I call "politician talk". I am glad for what everybody said here.
I did pass the test today and did much better in the rest of the test than normal. It was very cool to get that off my head. So I have a CDL. In Texas we are extremely lucky. On the backing all we have to do is straight line backing and blind side parallel parking. Both are extremely easy if you are trained.
I slept through my scheduled SQT, so I took the CDL driving first. My SQT is Monday now. So I hope it's as easy as the ones that passed it says it was. I did hear that one person rubbed the tandums on a curb and was sent home for it. I've asked around and found it wasn't once that will get you sent home, but many times. I have made almost all my turns without the curb, but all the people I have talked to said they hit them too. So they must put you in a tight spot to turn.
My TE said I will have 5 perfect turns and then a turn from hell. Trip planning, I am pretty good at. I am still new to driving anything, but especially 53' trailers with a tractor too. Learning to drive the trailer has it's problems. I am actually not bad at backing. If I have to compare, driving foward in town and backing, I am best at backing.
It is strange, some days I can get up and drive without grinding gears the whole drive. Then there are days when it seems like my gear shift wants to jump out of the floor and slap me upside the head for being so bad on shifting. Like during the CDL test today, I can't remember too many shifts were there was any griding, but on the first CDL test I stalled the truck 3 times, gridded all over the place, kept forgetting the switch on the front of the shifter.
I'm not worried at all about the SQT. That will help. I know how to drive but the worry factor is a killer. Also the stinkin' switch on the shifter gets me every time. Shifting from 10th to 7th doesn't work on turns too well when what you really wanted was 10th to 2th. Just an example. I would only do that on stop signs. Red lights I use Bump and Run.
Anyway, thanks for the encouragement!!!

All sounds very interesting!!!Glad you guys did good.. Im also thinking of trying truck driving as it has always been a dream of mine, Its in my blood..Its just the quiting of my job I have now and taking the chance in the school...I would like it there was somewhere I could check things out, and maybe even be in the truck, like a test drive of the whole thing, without quiting my job...

I've read your thread from the time you started training till just now.First, congrats on your new career.I found your posts very fascinating and informative for me.I am considering leaving my job as an insulator and joining Schneider. So,all in all, would you say it's a good decision?

We both live in Jersey and you'd be operating out of Perth Amboy.
Yea, I'd say its a good decision for me, don't know if it would be for you. Starts out hard with training and getting adjusted, but it gets easier and you have a lot of freedom. If you have any specific questions don't be shy . . . -
a little motivation, my latest travel video -
