    Heavyd,
I'm at mechanic's now. He's says its rearend. And it needs to be rebuilt. Is that the only solution? Can it be fixed or rearend needs to be rebuilt? Do you know a cost to rebuild rearend. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Rear axle needing rebuilding is not a term I am familiar with. Is there something wrong with the differential gear, or wheel ends? The rear axle is basically the just rear housing. "Rearend" is more likely be used to describe the differential gear.

Yuck! Ok, making perfect sense now. ABS sensor in that will read off of the differential. Not a big deal. Get a re-man gear installed and you're back on the road. Have him pull out the ABS sensor, it will be mounted into the housing at the top center area to make sure it didn't get eaten by the gear.

Hold on, differential doesn't need to be changed? The picture that I posted, what is it exactly? Do you know what a job like this costs, I think my mechanic is screwing me

Yes, that is the differential gear. That is the crown gear specifically. Generally, shops do not rebuild differential gears. Labor is too costly per hour, so we just replace the whole gear set with a complete re-manufactured assembly. We just call it a "gear" for short.

    Isadifferent Thanks this.

Heavyd, How much would you have changed to do this job. Parts & labor?
