I now have experience with this system in my last 2 jobs and with a little different experience. I'm currently with JBH in a 2014 Cascadia pulling 1-3 year old dry van trailers and it works great, smooth and predictable BUT I'm only going 62 mph. Pretty much the slowest vehicle on the road so unless I'm daydreaming i usually have plenty of notice that it's gonna activate and can adjust. When it does activate it's not too harsh.
My first job I had a 2012 ProStar that was un governed and I was pulling a older late 90s car hauler trailer. Now at 72 mph when it activated it would scare the crap out of you. Activated hard enough to set the seat belts. Never locked up the tractor tires but I would leave trailer skid marks so the mention of flat spots I could see on the trailer tires I guess. I didn't have any abs lights on on the tractor instrument panel or the trailer indicating light but that doesn't mean much so I can't be sure that the trailer abs actually worked. I still liked it for the smart cruise but I could easily see it being a issue on faster trucks. -
Also when it activates and you step on the go go pedal it mostly stops the braking action.
In my trainers truck it was showing a fault code on his screen and it was constantly amber or yellowish but his cruise still worked without any radar info. Think this is very rare cuz if my screen has any faults showing I have no cruise and in any other I've driven that's the case. -
I unplugged the sensor at the bumper. Everything works just has a "no sensor signal" at startup of truck. Effected nothing else
driverdriver Thanks this. -
