I plan on putting in a 100 watt theroelectric fridge similar to the coleman camping but better. My question is what size power inverter should i get. I dont want to spend too much money but would like something that wont drain the battery while I sleep So i need something to keep going for about at least 8 hours with out the truck running. Thx

Are you sure you need an inverter? All the ones I've seen run on DC. If you're going to get an inverter why not get a decent fridge, one of those college dorm types available from WalMart, Home Depot etc for under $100. With these you can also freeze things. What you have hooked to the inverter will determine how much juice is drawn from your batteries. How long they will last depends on your battery condition and tempreture. I have one of those dorm fridges and left it running for 36 hours with no problem.

I believe you can buy inverters that will shut off when battery power reaches a certain level . I'd look for one but wouldn't be able to post an ad here anyway .

my wife bought on sale for $50.00 and it doesnt have a dc plug. not to mention it keeps everything colder and is bigger. How big is your power inverter that you keep on for 36 hours and how many watts is your fridge? as far as the cut off just about all the inverters i seen has that feature but i dont want it to cut off. i want something that will keep on running will I sleep.

I have a 1500 watt constant, 3000 temporary. It is a Vanner (made in Ohio) that I've had since 1984. They cost a little more than your typical truckstop made in China ones but you get what you pay for. You're right on the automatic cutoff. Not sure on the watts on the fridge. It's about 3'x2'x2' with a freezer compartment that keeps ice cream and frozen meals frozen. I have to run down to the truck this afternoon and I'll check on the watts. The inverter itself will not run your batteries down by itself it is determined by what you have plugged in. Mine is always on except when parked at home. I have very good Cat batteries.

I've left mine plugged in for as long as 2 days, without killing the batteries. I always went out on the second day, to fire the truck up and let it idle for about 30 minutes.

If I allowed it to sit for 3...I had to jump it off.

I have a dorm fridge, and a 1500 watt invertor.

I would leave mine on for 3-4 days without starting the truck and it still be good.. most trucks built from 2003 and up have low battery kick off built into the trucks... long as you don't have it directly to the battery it will kick the entire system down to allow you to have enough battery to start the truck.

I think I would like to get a power inverter and I'll go look at West Marine or Port Supply and get my best price. Remember recreational boats use by far more cabin power than you would use in a tractor-trailer.

Don't the inverters over 400watts require a direct hookup to the the battery? I have a 400w that can go in the cig lighter, the 750w has battery clamps. I used to run my '06 Dodge CTD batts down with my Coleman fridge all the time.
It's good to hear that the bigrig batts are much better.
