Verizon has a Canada Mexico plan that lets you text and make calls. Internet is $20.00 for 100mb even with the plan. I am actually using T-Mobile these days and it doesn't cost anything extra for Canada and I can stream if the connection is good enough. You will only have service around bigger towns and than there is a lot of nothing.

Tracphone charges 5 dollars for a gig of internet bandwidth. Now if you are moving a movie or playing a game it's not much.

My wife and I run team and have made a few trips to Alaska in the summer time. My wife says we will not run up there in the winter but for the right price I think I could convince her....ha!
Normally we would enter Canada at the North Portal in North Dakota. From the border it is a 3 day drive to Fairbanks or Anchorage. You are not going to average 50 mph on those roads up there! The pot holes and broken pavement would tear your truck apart trying to run that hard over them. People I know who run up to Alaska say that Winter time is the best time to drive to Alaska because the snow fills the pot holes in.
Working for Landstar we use a Comdata card for fuel and have found that Esso and Petro Canada take the comdata card no problem. We have loaded back from Alaska but we are military AA&E haulers so that gives us a advantage. We will not go to Alaska for a load paying less then $20k and in the winter it would take double that rate to get us up there. We are fortunate as we have a big sleeper truck with a shower in it so we can shower when needed. I am sure though that the water would freeze up in -20 degree conditions and we would have to sponge bath it in our shower.
We love the trip though and I would love to go up in the winter sometime! Hopefully one day, we can make it happen!

Then I guess we misspent our life. $40K loads to AK and return empty for fuel spent... One round trip a month. Awesome.

It's that 20k landstar gross rate, or is that to the truck after their cut?

If ttt that's a pretty solid rate. If gross its still not bad if you view it as a paid vacation.

Metro PCS charges $5 for Canada/Mexico but it's otherwise the same network service at T-Mobile.
