I talk to folks on the road all the time. I ask a lot of questions and then come here to compare the answers. I spoke with one guy who was a lease operator with Schneider and moved to another company. He said he liked it more, had a better truck, and made more money. He gave me his number and said I could call anytime with questions. He was also a Marine like me and we hit it off. I will keep in touch with him, but he isn't the only one. You could start doing that and then you have a face to face with points of contact.

    pattyj Thanks this.

Ive been doing research all day ( nice snow day project) I've actually found a couple better opportunities now I'm looking at realistic miles .the estimation they gave was 651 miles a week. which I'm thinking/ hoping thats just a number they plugged in

You can figure 1800 to 2200 miles a week. Some weeks more , but plan on less

If the rate is right I'll give you a hundred trucks a week. Volume gets you a slight discount, but only if you are willing to commit long term to that volume.

Ugh...no. that's not good. That's a rate for a fool willing to work for 30k dollars a year just to be able to say he is an owner operator.

    mc8541ss and SL3406 Thank this.

Thats what i was thinking I had seen somewhere it cost about$1.38 a mile to operate a truck that wouldn't even cover operating costs

It doesn't. But thousands of fools sign up for these deals all the time. And they usually justify it by saying something like "but you gotta buy your plates and pay your tolls! My company reimburses tools and provides my plates!" In effect for a few thousand in freebies they give up 50k in pay.
