To do a dot check yes he does have to be a dot officer or dot certified if there local or city cop.And you can ask if they are certified and see that there certified. To open sleeper curtains to look in don't think they legally able to do without your consent. Not sure even about letting him get in.
Can cops just pull you over for no reason?

Yeah and all those fine officers are supposed to be working for us correct??? I mean we all pay their salary buy All Rights are technically employees of ours but I know that's not really the case but that's how it's supposed to be they work for us. And by us I mean the nation as a whole

I had a guy ranked under me when I was on the job. Well he showed up when a wrong way drive popped in my lane and I got stuck but all the skid marks are there. He accused me of being under the influence. It got to the point where I turned around and offered a blood test.
He started back pedaling and I told him that I heard at one point he was pulled and was DUI but given a ride home. Man did he shut up then. I couldn't prove it or would have handled it when it happened. -
Hold on there exactly where did you sign a check? We earned our own keep and that statement is a pet peeve of mine!spyder7723, 1951 ford, x1Heavy and 2 others Thank this.

The proper cop response is,
We are doing our job for the nation. By randomly checking trucks, we ensure that the big trucks on our hiways and biways are leagal and safe.....

They can do a limited search of the cab and sleeper.
From something I posted before...
Certain inspections may include the cab and contents and sleeper insofar as the sleeper conforming to FMCSA Regulations, but personal effects would be excluded.
