Who pays fine?

Depends on alot of different factors including, but not limited to, the state you live in, the state the company is based in, the state you received the ticket in, your employment status (contractor or employee) and any contracts or other company policy documents you signed before you started. Best thing to do is contact a lawyer.

Now the quick answer would be that since the owner was ticketed it was his responsibility to pay the fines and unless you signed something saying you would pay fines it was illegal for him to do so. Now both items should have been part of checking the truck out the first time, and part of occasional inspections, so he could make the argument that it was your fault for not catching it.

So ya, lots of variables here with only a lawyer truly able to answer your question.

Yes. You should have made sure both were in the truck. That is part of your pretrip.

You also need to make sure you have all the paperwork required such as cab registration, IFTA , certificate of insurance, charged fire extinguisher, good tires, good brakes and list goes on. You are ultimately responsible for all the aspects of the moving truck. You may refuse to drive it too.

It's your ticket. It has your name and license number on it. If its not paid, its your driving privileges, not the owner's, that gets suspended.

Friend, there are many posts of people coming here for help and advice that are already up Poop Creek without a paddle. You're not there yet. But if you dont learn how to take care of your legal responsibilities as a driver, you will be. Don't let that happen.

Take ownership, learn to rejoice in your freedom as Captian of the USS Trucker. But make sure your pre-trips COUNT. There are no highway big enough to hold the legions of coulda woulda shoulda.

Your Fleet Bosses and Owners depend on you to make sure that everything is required to be in your truck ready for a moment's demand for inspection or use in battle. That includes all papers, permits, stickers, bingo cards and tags and so on etc etc etc.

 

No wonder people have no clue with responses like this.
