Lol! True B.D. But you sure don"t have too drive to far north to get in on all the fun. Amazing how fast you can get into the rocks and cold temps. from southern Utah. An hour from where you live the elk also live.
CHAINING...are you ready?

Every month 400 people find a job with the help of TruckersReport.

I was in Reno around the middle of November and I was talking to an older driver, he said he was in his 70's, but he was telling me there is another way to go besides Donner but it does take a little longer. I wish I could remember everything he told me but I'm hoping some others can know and chime in.

You can sneak down highway 88 but there is length restrictions on it.dca and 27butterfly Thank this.

If you get caught over length in calif, your company will have to hire a short wheel base to pull your trailer to a point where it is legal plus get a ticket.
dca Thanks this. -
Take Hwy 395 north from Reno. Turn west...the only way you can turn...on Hwy 70. It's called the Feather River Canyon Route. Mostly two lane, sharp turns, but no hard pulls. You'll come out just north of Oroville and it's an easy drive to I-5 once you get to the valley.
70 has length restrictions. Don't try to fake your way through. Every time Donner closes there are a herd of trucks on 70 and the CHP has a field day with over length tickets. Besides the ticket, they can turn you around and send you back the way you came.dca Thanks this. -
confessions ... I went around once, had a delivery in reno, called in when empty for the next load, my employer asked how I got there since donner was closed.. didn't get ticket tho chp was there along with several other trucks.
my employer wasn't to happy about it, almost lost the job -
Another route which is legal to get around the scales would be 395 north out of Reno to highway 70 then hang a left on highway 49 to sierraville then take another left on highway 89. Used to haul a lot of hay that way. Will still snow a ton though
27butterfly and dca Thank this. -
Don't need no stinkin chains! lolHammer166, dca, otherhalftw and 2 others Thank this. -
Typical! Maybe it's because there is NOTHING more dangerous or helpless than a Southern Californian on snow or ice?
They didn't even have those signs when I lived in Inyo. Haven't been over that way in years now.otherhalftw Thanks this. -
