Yeah I know. Tapping the clutch out helps at times when there is pressure on the trans. That's why I ask what is that second tap all about. I've been driving for over twenty years. Never really understood what the reasoning was unless it's I timing thing that is taught. I don't see where it is mechanically beneficial.

No dude you didn't insult. Lol. Actually really i am wondering. There has to be a good reason. I just don't know what it is, and since there is another thread about double clutching I thought I would ask.

This is exactly what I do. Don't see the point of the second clutch.

Its a bit more forgiving on the drive train especially when heavy (100k+) and off road

I think tightness of the tranny does play a role. I drove a 5 speed Mack for awhile. Not even sure what the transmission model was. 5 very low gears, 5 drive, and 5 reverse. You could actually start from a dead stop in 1st high without even using the clutch. The tranny was so broken in you could clutch it and it would just fall out of 4 to 5th gear. Old cement truck converted into flatbed. Rode like ####, and the ac was a hand vent in the roof. Never, I mean ever broke down though.

I've never encountered a company that would rather spend money replacing a clutch than teaching a driver to float properly.

Your not a real trucker till you float em. Plus it's better on slick roads. If you clutch and pop it, you can cause the tires to slip and lose traction.

The last truck I floated was a century with an N14 and a rockwell 10 speed, all the trucks I've driven recently have ISX and fuller 10 speeds can't get the timing right so I double most of the time.
