Desktop truckers?
Eh? This is one trucker who would be standing at the DTN computer screen in the 76 plotting temperature lines at 32 and rains to figure out ice storms before we get there. Or knew enough to blow through Omaha a day early pending two feet of wet snow slamming the place by next morning several times.
I guess those kinds of People who think Desk top truckers will just have to go sliding and find out.
Arkansas is fixing to get hit with windchills of -8 or more this weekend with half inch of snow to start off the coldest in several years. Our building has a order to run both hot and cold water for three days and nights to protect the pipes. Im looking over ice charts, seems like a few hours worth in many places PA is setting up to look pretty bad.
I'll update this later on tomorrow as new updates come in. Personally Im happy not to go anywhere after tomorrow. But Will be here to do information for those of you who have to be out there.

If you really have to go that slow you're better off just stopping for the day instead of burning your drive time up at that speed.bzinger Thanks this.

I live in NW PA, and I'm loaded for East Chicago. I'm also sitting at the house, outwaiting this crud. Hopefully everything will be driveable by Sunday, cause I ain't moving until then.
I have lived most of my life in the Great Lakes region, and have driven this area in a big rig for the majority of my driving career. Winter's like this one is shaping up to be are nothing to play with. Seriously, people. Drivers DIE in winters like this. There isn't a single piece of cargo anywhere in the country worth your life.
Keep it steady, stay within your brakes, and if you ain't comfortable park that sonuvagun! Preferably somewhere with basic services. And if your dispatcher gives you any greif, PM me their number and I'll give'em what for!jethro712, bentstrider83 and bzinger Thank this. -
No worries I put her in her place lolx1Heavy Thanks this.

The main NOAA server ends at Noaad1 through noaad3 dot gif. for the three day weather graphics.
Another source is Winter Weather Prediciton center which forecasts snow pending three days by 24 hour blocks and ice damage. Remember our Utilities are spec'ed to withstand .50 inches of ice before failing. And .10th of a inch is enough to slide everyone.
Big storms pending in Louisana through Alabama as well.
That is all for tonight.JC1971 Thanks this. -
Was talking with a fellow driver earlier today. He was picking up in Brunswick, GA today for Idaho. I told him he needs to route south and maybe come up on the back side of the second system and avoid the central part of the USA for a few days, and he appreciated the tip.
Anyway they later hook him up with another driver who needs that load for their holiday home time. They discuss the weather and the other driver says something to the effect "I just came across Nebraska and things were fine. No problem. Meet you in Nashville." Seemingly clueless to the precipitation machine that is just now coming onshore in California, and is going to track across the southwest and meet up with very cold air and continue tracking eastward across 70 and 80 the next several days.
Some drivers have a very limited view of weather. And focus on the today when they should be looking at 2 and 3 day forecasts.Last edited: Dec 16, 2016
bzinger, x1Heavy and bentstrider83 Thank this. -
I've made that stupid mistake in past and now pretty much just sit at home until the garbage is melted or plowed off to the side. Money gets tight, but never tight enough to make a kamikaze run!!

Bet that went over like a fart in churchx1Heavy, JC1971, bzinger and 1 other person Thank this.

Yea Im over it. Best to let them talkers just get hammered by a storm that we see coming. Maybe they learn better to listen and plan around it next time.
Everything north of say Omaha-Saltlake-towards Duluth is fixing to get snow tomorrow then everything Denver, Oklahoma Kansas etc all get some snow. PA is setting up for a contining Ice event, Chicago-gary- etc looks to be icing as well. Arkansas is half a inch of snow with neg 8 windchills saturday, with big storms SE into Alabama. That moisture will feed the ice and snow machine all the way to Maine once it hits the mountains on the east coast.
I'll put up more maps later today, It's a bit worrisome that everthing is coming together and then some. There will be a awful lot of monday AM appointments in jepardy in the entire eastern half of the USA.Stormy 69 Thanks this.
