I would like a list of all the paperwork needed if pulled over.

I have been off for 2 yrs. because of a motorcycle accident, and I am starting a new OTR CDL A working Mon-Fri 600 mile radius of Kansas City, MO.

    List I remember:
    1. Daily log book
    2. Insurance
    3. IFTA
    4. Bill of ladings

Also please help with anything new hrs drive ect.

    Much thanks in advance.

I'll try to help with some additional items.
1.Drivers license with the proper endorsements
    2.Valid medical card
    3.Tractor and trailer registration
    4.If you haul haz-mat
    A.proper endorsement
    B.carriers authority to haul haz-mat
    C.emergency response giude book
D.Bill of ladings in the proper format(make sure the shipper has signed the bill under "shippers certification"among other things
E.A fire extinguisher with the proper letter code(A'B'C)
F.If you smoke don't get caught smoking in or around your truck if you are hauling class 3 or explosives.
G.The load must be secured or braced.

The list could go on and on.Go to FMCSA website.Under(search all sites)Type in (North American Standard Inspection procedure)At results, hit on sec 396-forms 3-1.pdf.Another result window will come up.Hit on that. This page will show you what you can expect for a level 1 inspection.

Remember, when stopped by law enforcement,be polite and courteous. If you are, some minor things might be given just a verbal warning rather than an out of service order.

The only things you should hand them is your dl, dot medical card, registrations for tractor/trailer and proof of insrance.

I will not hand them more stuff than what they actually need.
No need to ask for more tickets.

You can drive for 11 hours per day within a 14 hour period then you need to take 10 hours off
Sometimes you will hit the 14 hour mark before you actually drive 11 hours.

This is for otr drivers were a company works 7 days a week
Right now once you hit 70 hours total on duty time you can do a 34hr reset to gain your 70 hours back.

On duty time as you should know is on duty not driving and driving time.

    Better have your IFTA permit.

The usual I get asked for...
Registration (use to be cab card & SSR)
    Insurance
    IFTA

Just got a request from the Kansas POE for these just last week.

That was all kept in the permit binder with the truck reg, insurance at my first company

If you go out through the Wyoming POE they will ask for the truck reg, insurance, fuel permit, type of load ie frozen food or what ever you could classify it as without actually listing what exactly you were carring.

I never had to go inside at the Kansas POE I just kept rolling.

I thought the orignal question was regarding being pulled over by the cops

My first company had a binder in each of their trucks and the driver was suppose to check it monthly for expiring permits.

I agree, I never try to give anyone more than they ask for, I have known some to get upset 'cuz all they wanted was what they asked for.

From my viewpoint- (Trooper) the above is the correct way to do it. Also make sure you have everything possible in one place (binders are great).

I got pulled over by the MO DOT sometime back there where 435 connects to 670. He was in unmarked van and got on the CB and told me to take the next exit. Shoot,I had no idea who this clown was, so I asked, Who are you and why should I pull over? he sez, because I'm the DOT...oops. Now I take the next exit and he sez pull into that church parking lot. Now there is a sign at the entrance that sez, no big trucks. O crap I say, Either I'm in trouble with this DOT clown or GOD. What a mess. Oh well,I was already into the turn when I seen the sign,so it was too late to back out at that point.
Anyway, back to the original subject, all he asked for was my lic and med card. Since I was hauling concrete pipe and local, he did not even look at my log or load sheet.
Oh, he did write me up for load securement, I had 4 chains on when I should of had 5 and the rubber gaskets were just laying inside the pipe.
