Yesterday was my day off and after visiting some family that was staying for a day, I was on my way home. The interstate has a detour for trucks taking a particular exit and the DOT recommends via signs taking one of two other exits and then a frontage road to get where they want to go.
So I turn onto one of the streets where an alternate exit is and I see a Ash Trucking truck and trailer making a huge uturn in a 4 lane street with a turning lane in the middle. I couldnt figure out what he did...I thought he got off the interstate and couldnt see the frontage road right away so he turned around to go the other direction. I pass him and turn onto my street where I live and in my rear view mirror....the guy did it again when he apparently saw a sign saying 'no thru trucks'
Maybe its just me but I feel Uturns are a very dangerous thing to do, especially in town and especially even more so on a 4 lane road.
U-turns....argh!

Got to be one of the top most dangerous moves to make in a TT. Guess some folks just don't get it.

Very bad move

I did this once in Arkansas, going to a Walmart DC. I was given the wrong street to trun down. Well at the end it wa a dead end. The street to the right was just being made, so I had no choice but to either back down the whole street or to jack the truck and head back out the way I came in..

U turns are especially dangerous. They are also prohibited by some companies safety departments.
That being said, there will come a time, when the situation arrises that you really don't have much choice in the matter. Just use a LOT of caution.
I know it is hard to believe that this big truck you are driving won't be seen by oncoming traffic. But the fact is, no one is expecting a big truck to pull a U turn. Add to that the distractions of talking on the cell phone, yelling at the kids, or just plain driving HUA and you can have a fourwheeler run right under your trailer.
That is not exactly a "career enhancing" situation. -
I saw a guy do that at a set of lights in Chicago. I didn't see the cop either, but he was on him before he finished the turn., and not helping to block traffic.
