I had asked this question in another thread on the topic, but since it probably affects this industry more than any other I was just curious,
When the ELD mandate goes into affect, is there a size/weight threshold? IOW, are these pickups and hotshots also going to have to go the ELD route? Is that why so many of these guys are coming on here wanting to run a pickup?
ELD's and pickups,

I don't think so, Stan. If they're required to run logs, they have to use an ELD. There are a few exceptions, but none related to size/weight.

That is what I had read as well, but I have noticed what seems to be a lot more inquiries lately about a "pickup and two car trailer? -
There's just more and more of them dying to get in on the 'BIG' money in carhaul! /stech10171968, passingthru69, KANSAS TRANSIT and 1 other person Thank this.

Yup they're required to have them as well. And I've been asking everyone that I've come across who runs a dually how they plan on handling eld and I have gotten everything from "what's that" to "I don't know what I'll do" to "time to get out of it".

I was reading some of the FAQ's on FMSCA. Apparently gliders with VINs after 2000 but older engines have to run ELDs, as well:

Yup it goes by the vin. If the 10th digit is an X or above no eld, if it's a Y or a number eld for you.

Does it have anything to do with 26000 lbs gross weight? Talked to one guy pulling campers, he runs from Indiana to Portland Or every week.
KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -
You would have to currently be exempt from log books to be exempt from eld.
I really don't know what those minimum wage trailer haulers are going to do, the only way they make anything resembling a paycheck is to turn and burn and get 1k miles back to IN. Oh well, I can't say I feel bad for anyone who struggles with elementary math.Dominion Transportation, passingthru69 and Hammer166 Thank this. -
You have to be under 10,000# to be exempt by weight.brian991219, Terry270 and KANSAS TRANSIT Thank this.
