Glad you said this, Hammer! People piss and moan about the condition of the road, and point fingers at the road department. But the truth is, that it is the DRIVER, and the DRIVER alone, that either alters his driving to deal with road conditions, or suffers the the consequences!
The highway departments can only do so much. They have the same problems with their trucks breaking down, and their employees going out on the sick/lame/lazy list, that every other employer has.

My truck already has an electronic one installed. Rest assured I was watching it like a hawk driving down I-57 along with watching the traffic.

Each and everyone of us who's got the letter A on our plastic license knows what we need to do when the weather and visibility goes bad. Slow the eff down or pull over and wait it out. If you continue to play the super trucker game then you as the driver will need to take complete responsibility for the carnage you're big truck will create.
Stuka, allniter, KillingTime and 2 others Thank this. -
Never mind

I don't think its so much the Driver...As it is their dispatch/customer/broker That they want to impress/satisfy
Drivers need to STOP thinking trying to impress others- The Load will get there.
Your Not going to Lose your Job or your Customer because You Decided safety was imminent........It will show them that You Matter and the safety of others#1don and KillingTime Thank this. -
Baltimore had level II activated back in 93 with rumors of a level III ban of all vehicles in the city that storm. But it's morning hours and a flash freeze is going to be carnage.
At some point I think the Truckers need to stop being kicked into delivery in all weathers which is not smart against ice. Toilet paper or widgets does not a nation need right away.stayinback Thanks this. -
oh man...That 93-early 94 storm was BAD!!
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Same here. If it's not safe to drive in, I won't. 99% of the time dispatch doesn't say a word and when they do, I tell them the keys are in the truck, go for it.allniter, drvrtech77 and KillingTime Thank this.

Remember those are generally calibrated +/- 3*... So if it's 35*F, you could literally be on thin ice.

Yep, as I sit here, wide awake for the last three hours, waiting for the clock to tick down. Probably halfway to Jax, I'll have to stop and take a nap inside the 14 hour window...
Gee, thanks FMCSA, I feel so much more ####ing rested now.Infosaur, x1Heavy, allniter and 1 other person Thank this.
