Youre right some areas you take your seniority with you. My area package car guys start over in seniority when moving into feeders but will start at the same level of pay as they were in package cars.

Most of the hiring is done from within unless they dont have enough qualified drivers from within. I believe its in the contract. They can only hire from the street after a certain amount of people are hired from within.
There are people waiting for 10+ years to move up to feeders from within. Those people get first dibs.

Ive been with UPS since 1981. It is a great place to drive a big truck but they expect very high standards and you almost always have to promote into feeder (big trucks) by company seniority. This means working pt for about $10 per hr for many years, promoting full time to package delivery in the brown vans you see around town ,and finally after 10-15 years you can promote to feeder and the truckdriving holy grail... I work m-f 11-12 hrs day home every night and gross $130,000+ for the last three years. Benefits include a Cadillac medical plan that covers my whole family. 6 weeks paid vacation, plus 9 personal floating days, 56 hours sick pay, this doesnt include the legal holidays Memorial day, July 4th, etc. Im going to retire soon and collect a company paid pension of $5,000. Big downside... dont have an avoidable accident or hurt yourself on the job cuz they treat you like #### when you do. If you can survive the long pt stint at terrible wages and then handle many more years as a package driver (believe me you work your ### off, and stress... whew) go for it!
