Yeppers. I pull a drop deck van and there is simply not enough room to look when hooking up. I do my pre on the trailer then raise the landing gear a couple inches. Pull out at about 60-70 degrees angle of tractor to trailer. I then hop out and check the jaws and finish raising the landing gear.

If your hooking up to a trailer correctly, you have to get out of the seat twice if you have no back window.
1.Once to ensure that the trailer is at the proper height to eliminate high hooks.
    2. Once to get out and look to make sure the jaws are fully engaged.

Do it this way every time and you won't end up on the news. 'Nuff said.

If you pay attention, after doing this a while, you can just look out your mirror and see the distance between the drove tire and bottom of the trailer and know if it's gonna be high or of you better crank it down some. But still ALWAYS look after backing under it to make sure the jaws are closed over the shank.
