    So of the 15.5 Million trucks on road according Truckinfo.net less than a half of percent die each year.... You have a better chance of winning the lottery than dying in a truck..... :D

    I wish the lottery produced 745 winners per 15.5 million people or .0048% of people. More like 1 in 292 million rather than the deaths in trucking of 1 in 20,805.

    The point is the numbers can be manipulated to suit whatever the need is. In 2008 and 2009 one could argue they were the safest years ever, and not mention trucks did 50% of the miles vs previous years. In my mind, we need to come up with an acceptable level of failure to determine if the laws we enact actually accomplish the goal and at what price. If we wanted zero crashes with car vs truck we could have trucks restricted to 9 pm to 7 am and cars restricted to 7 am to 9 pm. Impractical, won't ever happen. So we have an acceptable level of risk every time someone hits the road. Why can't we have an acceptable level of failure? I guess whoever says that won't get reelected.
