I'm curious, what are some of your favorite trucking companies. Also, what do you love about them?

@Mad Monkey I agree. You can never know if people tell the truth on here but I think that some people post stuff because they are lazy and don't want to run like they're supposed to or like you said they have a fantasy about trucking that is far from the truth. And then when it don't work out they are all too willing to bash that company. Now in some cases that company might actually be terrible but ya never know til you give them a chance

Danny Herman Trucking - haven't worked there, but if I wanted dry van that's where I would go. Nice equipment with APU and no northeast or New York City. Freight lanes are good; lots of southern routes all the way to California.

Get your CDL and some experience, and then train with Danny Herman. The closest terminal is King Mountain, TN I believe

Please be truthful for new drivers that may be reading this. You have not worked one day for western express nor have you ever driven a truck for them? But yet you leave a comment that some may misinterpret, and may think you are speaking from experience with this company. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Edit..yes I see where you say you have not driven for them yet. Your raving reviews of western express are not from Actuall experience with the company.

Also, I would recommend Roehl Transport as an option. I worked there and was treated well and kept moving. Nice equipment, well maintained, EPU for heat and cooling. They also have home time fleets if you are looking to be home more. They have a terminal in GA.

    RollingRecaps,
Your not aware of the length of time I spent doing my due diligence on this company. I never once said they were the crem de la crem of trucking companies.

What I have said is that for me, it works. I also specifically stated yesterday that I spent a lot of time speaking with a lot of companies and for me, again For Me, what they have to offer, works For Me.

Unlike many here, I don't go onto different companies areas and try to persuade new drivers into passing on that company in favor of this one or any one company.

I also stated that I know several drivers here personally and I chose to talk to drivers outside of them to get different perspectives. I failed to do that when I went with Raider Express out of Fort Worth, Texas and I swore I would never do that again.

Now I started a thread yesterday about my experiences or soon to be experiences with this company, and I refuse to post just the good things, I will be man enough to admit my mistakes while here and if this company is as bad as people say it is, I will admit I was wrong.

I have two. One is EckMiller. They have the Ravens Flatbed for hauling aluminum and steel in a good order. Always new chain and straps for the packing. Nothing about them was shoddy. Except one. Refusal to repair large ticket items like A/C systems. I once had the Savannah TA replace a bad A/C system in total for a bill of about 1400 dollars billable via comcheck to EckMiller's shop manager. They yelled. But paid it. Better to ask forgiveness than permission I say. Best A/C in the south where I stayed most of the time with ice on the windshield some nights in the summer. That is one reason I say they were a favorite. Easy to manage problems and get them to cough up the expenses. They are after all a billion dollar company and should do it right with a few dollars. Im serious....

The other is FFE. This outfit gave me what I thought a trucker company should be. There were like two people in every division from dispatch, shop, safety, compliance forms-permits, osd, Upper managements vice prez etc. Whatever the problem is it got fixed or sorted. They gave us a cherry truck at 20 miles and let us run wild as a team doing good work saving accounts from lazy drivers until we discovered McKesson of Memphis with our first Million Dollar narcotics load picked up off someone in Jessup.

At that point we had to stop running for FFE because payroll did not catch up with our volume of work loads delivered. Paychecks were 0.00 based on 7000 plus ground miles each week as a husband wife team. No reflection on them. because 10,000 in savings makes it easy to wait 9 weeks to get paid if we did not approach a DM with the trip numbers and data needed for them to cut a comcheck on the spot. Oh.. 2000 dollars? here you go minus taxes, ty. Otherwise it would never have gotten paid. I understand it's all computerized now.

A word for Ronnie Dowdy of Batesville AR. He was a 200 truck Reefer Outfit. He went to college to learn business after a tour as a trucker himself and built a good company. One year a storm destroyed power to his compound causing all of us to sit waiting on a blank qualcomm with no orders except by old fashioned telephone and pencil. That takes hours. He brought in large generators, hooked up his computers and kicked our ##### into motion again on the satellite. I have no idea what he spent doing that, but I can tell you he made a profit making sure we rolled loaded on time. As a side note, I met wife here in Arkansas and we married. They fired us beause we can either sit on the phone inside the J and court long distance each day or we can drive. My mistake. Oh well. We still go get married and build a life here anyway in spite of it. =)
