What does the shipping papers say? In other words what is the proper shipping name? Because Petroleum oil is haz mat class 3, UN1270, packing group 1, flammable liquid. I could be wrong but I sure would check with somebody that has CFR 49 parts 100 to 177 to be sure.
Hazmat?

While you're at it, apply for a TWIC card. If you do it at the same time as your hazmat background check most states will let the one background check count for both applications.Lepton1 and southwest_bs Thank this.

What if he doesn't need twic?
-
Awesome, thanks everyone.

Most all oil is non hazmat I use to run bulk oil both refined and raw, conventional and synthetic. Now once the oil has been used it is usually classified as being hazmat. I use to get the rookie DOT guys all fired up, then the boss would say "oil" I'd say yup. He would point at the sticker that says no code on the trailer and off I went.

Currently he may not. However, in the future it can be a valuable asset. I have my Hazmat, but not my TWIC. Without the TWIC I couldn't accept a sweet paying load last month (over $1000 payroll for a 900 mile run).
I'm getting my TWIC. -
If you get both the twic & hme you'll get a discount on the twic. Chops it down like 15 bucks or somin.

You can also find that in this book.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Yes, that's the pocket book taken from the FMCSR and CFR 49 parts 100 to 177.
