I actually was looking at new prostars today, with the Cummins ISX/Eaton Ultrashift and Cummins ISX/Allison TC10 "Fully integrated" powertrains. They come in at 45K Canadian less than an apples to apples KW T680 or Pete 579. I know all about the Maxxforce (Trashforce) engines (and Navistar in General), but I like the Cummins, and the fact that the Cummins ECU controls either transmission now. Anyone have exprience with the late model Cummins powered Prostars?

I was talking to a Cannuck with a fairly new 680 about a week ago. He liked his Cummins, he's more than just this one, and he said the Cummins only comes with a 250K warranty. I found that to be a little shocking, since the Detroit's go to 500K, 600K in some circumstance.

I think he was mistaken, the Cummins I looked at today was 500 000kms (250 000 miles) Motor and After Treatment. (or so the suit said)

I like the Cummins also, which is why the Prostar for 45K less w/cummins standard has my attention. 45K more for a T680 with a 500hp/1800tq MX13 ain't happening.

Well that's what I find concerning is the Cummins has 250K warranty, but the Detroit has 500K, 600K if it was purchased as part of a fleet.

ISX 15 is standard with 2yr/ 250,000 miles with options that can get you 7yr 500,000 miles...with the fuel economy of the prostar or the new LT that's out I think that's the way I would go.

I stopped at Western Star today, and the sales guy said the Detroit warranty is 500 000kms (250 000 miles) everything is covered, the next 250 000 miles is "Limited Warranty" but they call it a "500 000 mile warranty". Apparently their after treatment warranty is separate from the engine warranty? Atleast thats what I got from reading the legaleze. The Western Star guy was really pushing the extended warranty package, while the International guy wasn't, so idk lol. Glad i'm just doing research right now, if I had to actually buy a truck, IDK WTF I would do or believe.

When I was searching for trucks I went to an International dealer to inquire about a couple of non-International trucks they had. The salesman then starts pointing me towards a couple of Prostars. His first words about them were, "I know we've had a bad reputation, but..."

Yep, that seems to be their opening line LOL "We had some issues that i'm sure you know about, but that was all the Maxxforce engine, we only order Cummins now".

    I sea
I searched until my eyes bled, and bought a Volvo with a D13, and was completely satisfied.
When I picked it up, in the shop at the dealer, we're 10 trucks having big motor work done, 8 Cummins, 1 CAT, 1 Detroit.

    But,
The local Freightliner offers a new Cascadia for $28K less with a Cummins plant vs. Detroit.

I think I'd risk the Cummins. I know at the Volvo side, the guys with the Cummins pay the devil with after treatment / EGR / DEF problems.

Seems like '13 & later Cummins much less problems.
