I just started hauling groceries for Spartan Nash out of the Omaha DC and like it so far , good money , dedicated runs and know where I'm going and when I'll be home .
The hours are definitely not for those afraid of the dark tho .

Eh I'm not afraid of the dark. I'm currently on night shift-just finished a 15.50 hour shift. Plus side to nights: no traffic, interesting AM radio stations coming up, tearing down the highway with only other trucks, and seeing weirdos. The downside for me is I don't see my wife or baby girl at ALL during the week. I get a kiss goodbye in the morning but I'm usually half asleep. I'd be willing to suffer through that less desirable dayshift dealing with all the crap if it gets me some time with them during the week. After putting up with SF Bay Area traffic for a few years, I think I'd be ok.

Just make sure you keep your ID handy so she can recognize you! Ex-wife and I used to joke about that. Before she was my EX-wife, of course.

Haha yea I haven't shaved in a few months. She hardly knows who I am but the bills are paid!

They get paid 1 hour per 41 miles, not 41 cpm. It's a big difference.speedyk and Air Cooled Thank this.

Thank you 6er, very helpful distinction. One would think their own HR people would... never mind.

Albertsons own many divisions. Pay and whether it's union or not may vary. If you want to apply for a specific company, such as ACME or Safeway, you have to apply on their websites, and not Albertsons website.
ACME I know has been on a hiring spree because of all the new stores that they just opened up, which is about 72. They bought out Pathmark, Superfresh and A&P and they're ALL ACME stores now. And because of all the extra work they have now, they've been using O/O's to cover the work until they can get enough Fleet drivers. They also got a bump in payrate because of this.speedyk, bzinger and Pintlehook Thank this. -
I'm still trying to figure Spartan Nash out and if just make money by accident lol.
My Monday route covers 627 miles with a half loaded trailer going to 2 stores .Pintlehook Thanks this. -
A buddy of mine looked in to Spartan Nash in Bluefield and he asked the girl in charge about how much "cube" they put on a trailer. Her reply was 800 or so, which shocked the both of us. Supervalu generally doesn't let us out of the gate with less than 1500. I think Bluefield is a Dollar General DC (I may be wrong on that, I don't know), there must be a lot of profit with those stores.

An old timer told me the other day that Nash Finch was just about broke when they merged with Spartan foods ...also said Nash Finch lost most of the Kansas stores to associated grocers and Spartan Nash is trying to pick lost business in Kansas.Sho Nuff, speedyk and Pintlehook Thank this.
