I seen on this tutorial I was watching as an example they were using a load paying 2.14 @793 miles. They were charging the customer $1700 than subtracting your fuel surcharge of$135 which equaled $1565 you got 65% of that $1565 plus the$135 fuel surcharge so if I figured it out right equals
$ 1,152.25 and if you take that number and divide it by the 793 miles your actually making 1.45 a mile. I seen elsewhere that it takes about $1.38 a mile to operate the truck so your really only making 0.07 a mile correct? It started out sounding like a good load but after breaking it down sounds like load only paying $55.51. I know that was a good bit to read but I was wondering if someone could tell me if I was breaking this down correctly.

You want to start off right, don't look at these videos just yet, learn the right business terms and what they mean, then start with basic business math, learn how to figure a BEP and what is the difference between a margin and a profit.

Once that is done, go over to the OOIDA and download their O/O spread sheet and look at each fixed cost and variable cost header, learn what each is and how to figure out what the costs are. Call an insurance company, call the OOIDA and once that's done, start looking at true trucking costs.

Learn how the FSC should be figured, how to buy fuel right, what fuel taxes matter and which states to avoid - what learn all of these things before you look at rates?

Because you will need to know how to figure your BEP quickly based on where you are going and what you will be hauling.

This should take you a week at the most to do all of that.

I know many will disagree with me but many didn't take this stuff to the next step and don't want to learn it.

Ok thanks I will look into each piece you have suggested. I do appreciate it I hadn't thought about fuel tax and the fact that maybe it's not just like putting fuel in your car ( price wise)

Commercial trucking liability insurance and cargo. 1 million liability, 100k cargo. Those are minimums. Occasionally you will need more cargo but you can add that on a load basis.

    dream$ Thanks this.

For a company driver? Eh it's not terrible bad i guess assuming you get time and a half after 40 and can consistently get 60 hours per week. If target own my equipment, written 30 hours a week and earn double the monthly income.
