But that's my point. It's kinda like a guy taking a cab to the casino with $100. And right away putting $100 in the slot machine. Yea he might get lucky but chances are he won't. So how does dude get home?

Rate is based on loaded one way. Railhead traffic is mainly shortline work. Out and back. We used to have all the Ford ramps in the western US. Mira Loma, CA drivers would load a local toward the Long Beach port, then load Import traffic (we had Jag, Mercedes, Nissan) to Phoenix, then load Las Vegas out of El Mirage, back to Mira Lima. My drivers would do the same thing starting toward Vegas and back from the port. We were creative at keeping the trucks loaded, however the rates are all based on loaded one way, empty back.Last edited: Mar 28, 2016

Hey Slant were you Hadley? Sounds like it. Yeah, Reno is a turn and burn. Very rarely get anything back and with the weather being bad lately we have a lot of loads backed up in the yard. So you know what that means. That's my point, we really cant have guys refusing to run up there. Its a nice easy day. 3 1/2 hours up 3 1/2 hours back. That's new car distribution. It is very different than running out of auctions or POV's

That's pretty much it. Some people out there think 20% is way too much to pay for a company handing you freight. Got news for you. Its not! What trucking companies put out in sales and office staff to get these car contracts is outrageous. 20% really doesn't cover much. I have now lived on both sides of the fence. For example Im paying $38,500 to attend and partially sponser a conference in March in order to shake hands and meet some big wigs in the finished logistics community. Getting the work is the hard part. Hauling it is much easier

Depends on what you're getting for that 20%. Access to good frieght at a fair rate, wonderful. 20% to get handed $3/mi stinger loads? Joke.

I would agree with you if it was $3.27 outbound with deadhead involved, but if my calculations are correct it was for all miles run with half being MTY. I don't know about anyone else, but my truck gives me a very good profit on $1120 a day for 171 loaded miles and 171 MTY miles. Sure I like shorter trips that pay more per mile and run them often, but I do very well on this type scenario.Terry270 Thanks this.
