I would bet I know who it was giving him problems, I tried to ger away from that Terminal but couldn't .
It seems this last time I went back it has gotten bad with drivers just dropping trailer wherever and not getting things fixed if the load is T called, they figure it's not there problem anymore but in reality it will be eventually .

Monday night and I'm still here at the Memphis terminal.
Both the body shop and the people in tractor assignment are out until Tuesday.
Hopefully I can get a new, or decent, truck tomorrow so I can get rolling again.27butterfly and FerrissWheel Thank this. -
Dang, how hard is it for some idiot to hand out a book and some keys. You would think these sort of things could be expedited.
I'm in SLC. Tcalled a load of freightliner frame rails. Picking up mystery "construction material" tomorrow and heading to Bakersfield. After that return to Vegas.
No steel tarps in the shed or buried in the snow. So I had to take mine off. Dig one lumber tarp out of 3 ft of snow pilled up next to the shed. Then I couldn't lift it cause it was covered in ice, and a 100lb object covered in ice just does not cooperate. So I had to unroll it, but not drop the sides, drag up one end, and start slowly pulling it up onto the load.
Then I discover, the rest of the yard tarps are all unrolled and just thrown in the shed or buried under more snow. So instead of rolling it just to unroll it on the load. I grabbed my 5thwheel/ tarp hook and drug the dang thing up over the load the hard way. Pure rage and the sunk cost fallacy got that thing up there.
But strangely I love it. Even if half of me is soaking wet and freezing cold.
Steer tires were recalled, got red tagged at fuel lane, and got a brand new set of steers.27butterfly Thanks this. -
Maybe because only certain people are authorized to do it?
And it is, after all, over the Christmas holiday.
Handing out the keys to a truck is not the job of some idiot. -
I wasn't complaining, only stating a fact.
I understand how things work and I go with the flow.
I don't like sitting a couple days, but I need to be out of this truck. The repairs will take too long.
Add to that, I have a missing sleeper window and a side box that is open to the air by being shoved back about 8 inches and caved in.
At any time I could be put out of service because we can not be sure that storage door won't come off and hit someone.
Every day the planner is contacting me to see if I am good to go.
I say no, because...
But not just anyone can assign me a different truck.
And I will not take a loaner.
I am not going to move my stuff around that often. -
Indeed. It's a valuable asset, and a trustworthy employee should control said asset.
I'm just saying, in a company this large, with this many employes, someone in the office should be able to do such a thing, or defer to some manger with the authority elsewhere to realease the asset, at the very least during buissness hours on a weekday. In cases like this if nothing else. It's revenue lost, and were it most any other employee, they'd be dealing with replacing them. (Not that they would find that so compelling, but still, it's bottom line that could positively be effected with a relatively minor procedure in place.)
Your more patient than I. Good luck tomorrow Moose. -
I can understand it, being Christmas and all.
But I got my new truck today, a '17 Cascadia.
Brand new, too.
It has 120V plugs, but no power. So I guess there is no inverter even though I found an installation manual for one.
One of the drivers at the terminal said that Swift was changing their policy and would soon be installing them on request.
We'll see. That sounds too good to be true.
I'm starting to get used to the auto-shift and radar, but it'll take some time. -
I still don't know about the automagics and backing.
JOHNQPUBLIC and A21CAV Thank this. -
My concern is what surprises they display in snow and ice. I learned to drive a big truck in February 1967 in the north end of NJ on roads they didn't even bother plowing and cannot imagine that without a clutch.

I haven't had a problem with backing so far. Seems pretty straight forward.
The one problem so far is figuring out how to disable the idle shut off.
When the lights come on I have tried turning on and setting the cruise control, and tapping the brake.
Neither one works.
Any suggestions?
