Been reading post about driving for WalMart and I have learned some new stuff and learned stuff I forgot about.
I applied 2 weeks ago and hope I get the job.
My last truck was a Pete 389 ISX 600 18spd with 4 axles,,yep I owned it and the 4 new petes.
The last 1 1/2 million miles were mostly wide and 35-50,000lbs over weight and in the rockies,
Got over 3 1/2 million miles w/o an accident and over 20 since my last ticket..

I sold my equipment and gave up my authority after 28yrs because I would not haul cheap.
I am applying walmart as a company driver because they run legal, home weekly or so, run very decent equipment and the money is in the top 5%.
I worked for UPS 40 yrs ago,,,worst company I ever worked for,,drove 15yr old junk trucks washed daily and painted every 3 yrs or so but the company treats drivers like dirt and the union must be sleeping with them too. At UPS drivers at the bottom can be on vacation coverage for 10yrs or more and your work schedule the next week is not given to yo till you get in from your Friday night shift , I quit after 14months.
I have read that Walmart has a cell phone policy,,Good drivers do not need to be using a cell phone for any reason .. Any driver that does like it "What is the hell did you do before cell phones"
    (were not born back then?)
You have to ask your self if you were the company owner and you had lots of drivers would you have the same policies as Walmart? Remember a bad driver and an accident can cost hundreds of millions,, yes we know "YOU" are a great drivers but what about the other driver? Best that a company has a policy the same for all as well as treat all the same too.
for over 30yrs I picked my own trucks, picked what when and when I hauled and made $75-150K a year salary .Walmart pays for every activity that a drivers does,, walmart has very decent trucks, walmart drivers get home weekly , walmart drivers work day .
It would be very difficult to find a better deal as a company driver, Sure there are rules but that's life.
Most of todays drivers were not trucking thru the 70's to mid 80's when 55mph was the national speed,, when you needed to make a phone call you had to find a nasty public phone.
I fould that turning off the CB,,driving easy about 65 max it was more relaxing especially when money is good.
So be happy today you are not driving a B model Mack w/twin sticks or GMC cracker box w/no air for 10cnts/mile or $1.50/hr oh forgot 220hp.....
I'm 64 and hope I got an other million miles and now want to drive for a company that pays well and has top notch equip..Heck driving for Walmart will be so easy even Obama or a democrat could do it or a guy from India
I am sure that there is a company out there better than WM but for a large company with over 500 trucks or more I don't think you can find better, and some will not like WM that is life and OK. Just like some would sleep with Hillary and other not..
And if they don't hire me so what still having fun in life .......I live in NV and about once a month there is an add in the local paper for security guards at the Chicken Ranch..

BTW got my chauffeurs lic when I was 16 for $16, I have never taken a road test at DMV for my CDL either. Back then all you had to do is pay them the money.

I worked at a job where they had a old twin stick mack, a roll off. I hated it for like the first two weeks. If i missed a gear i had to come to a stop and start all over again. When i finally got it down. I loved the truck because i was the only one that could drive it. Everyone else complained about the night shift driver moving things around and leaving a mess not me .

You have a very good mind set. You would make an excellent driver for WM. Let us know in the "Walmart, here I come!" Thread how it goes for you. Good luck to you!

Don't know if I or anyone is perfect for a job,, Driving a truck is not rocket science,, going into a job knowing upfront what the job is and what is expected from both the driver and the company is a big deal. Got to have rules, got to think safety no matter what job or industry. For me good fair pay, good decent equipment, some regular home time and running legal are important. All drivers deserve a fair honest company to work for and the company deserves the same from a driver.
When looking at the whole picture it is hard to beat what WM has to offer. The way it will stay good is for both drivers and the company to work and care about each other. when it turns into a love hate relationship time to get a divorce.
Took me many years and several different companies and years of running my own show to get smart about work.
See what happens they might not hire me.
