it's a bad clone. I have the original and usblink 2 also.

 

I have a similar one to that one - been using it fine for two years

 

depends for what you use it. it works fine on j1708. if your truck is DDEC V(or old ISX) or earlier this one will work. it's almost impossible to use it to change parameters on DD15 or on EPA07 Series 60 . In short if you need to do something serious on j1939 or CAN this clone will give you headache.

 

Wow...that is actually kinda difficult to tell...but you can compare it from the MFG website on how that listing is a FAKE usblink based upon the pictures.

there are 2-3 kind of fakes. the one I have looks like original. same plastic quality , same case, same label. I opened both oh them. the original has different ic board. Also when you install the driver that came with fake usblink it shows that some generic rp12210a device driver installs. if you install genuine usblink driver it shows different things.. sometime its hard to recognize which one is fake by pictures. that's way its better to buy from trusted source. nexiq has listed official retailers on website.

 

Sheesh...that's ridiculous! Did your fake have a serial number on the back of the box? Because I didn't see that it had a serial number on the back as the legit ones do. Also, I couldn't find a fake one of the USB-LINK2 yet--which also has a serial number on the back of it as well.

 

I have not seen fake usblink 2 yet. my fake usblink has the same front and back labels as original one. it shows serial number. fake device is little lighter and front label's colors are more rich. plus the cd came with driver and some diagnostic software. the genuine cd contains no diagnostic software.

 

Does it even work with DLink?

 

yes. partially. I think it's ok on j1708 network. no full functionality on j1939. I was unable to read hvac codes.. Dlink see it but no way to access all modules.. I have tried it on epa10 Cascadia.

 

Have you tried it on SLink? I guess it'd be useless since SLink is phasing out.
