Not being a driver yet will make it hard to understand the issue. Try doing a job for 30 years and then being told by a paper pusher how to do said job. Maybe you'd be a little riled up too.
Elog......maybe not

I'm an early adopter of tech so I don't see this being an issue. I'd actually be annoyed if I was told I had to use paper logs. Because I prefer the "tech way" but also for safety reasons. You know as well as I do, even if you wouldn't do it yourself, that many truckers would take advantage of paper logs to drive more than is safe to make more money faster. Wasn't that why elogs and HoS were introduced in the first place?
However, you make a valid point. You may be one of the honest ones and don't think you should have to change just because of the "few" bad apples. Agreed.

We run day cab intermodal refrigerated freight out of Chicago, typical waiting unload/load time at any receiver/shipper is 2+ hours. Typical waiting time at rail to fix any minor issue is 1 hour.
Waste 1 hour at rail
Drive 3.5 to Indianapolis
Wait 3 hours for unload
You hit traffic on way back
Out of hours
Park on side of the road with day cab for hours to reset
This will impact our industry heavily. Either receivers / shippers have to abide by some type of loading regulation or theses brokers will be charged double for drivers to lay over everyday on a 350 mile trip.JimmyWells, PeteyFixAll, misterG and 6 others Thank this. -
There are guys who have been driving safely for 30, 40, even 50+ years. Many are not into tech, they may even be overwhelmed by it. And they're upset that some bureaucrat is forcing them to adopt it if they want to continue doing their job. Many won't -- many good drivers will leave the industry, and their replacements won't be as safe.JimmyWells, poppapump1332, gokiddogo and 15 others Thank this.

Exactly. You will feel the pain the most.

Trump is not going to do anything for you or any other working class man, you'll see.Eldiablo and Duurtipoker Thank this. -
There is really nothing about e-logs that would grant you safety. Not that many of us on paper logs are running crazy while chewing coke. I can see the e-logs may constrain me to run during the times when I'd rather rest. This in itself is a compromise.bullhaulerswife, bbechtel16, rank and 2 others Thank this.

Paper logs seem old fashion though. Let me run 14 hours a day (including labor) no 70 hr limits and no 14 hr above all. Then I'll be happy with e-logs.

THIS, was the exact same situation as with CDL's!! "It's all about safety" they said, Bull$&it!!! When CDL came in, I watched my mentors leave trucking do to their lack of education. They were replaced with younger guys who s biggest job was passing a drug test!!! I started with a Chauffeur license in 1987. Past FedEx today swerving on the road, couldn't keep his eyes off his phone, that's the problem not log books!!25(2)+2, gokiddogo, PeteyFixAll and 9 others Thank this.

Being legal isnt safe and being safe isnt legal. You'd be well advised to listen more and talk less until you know what you're talking about.Last edited: Dec 28, 2016
