If anybody needs a dispatcher for to make a decision for their own business, then its safer to be a company driver.

You are right.while I'm not advocating either I've done good with both systems.i was leased to a textile mills transportation department for 5 years they ran there own products at a very fair mileage rate.then I bought a step deck and am running on my own for last 7 years.the most I've ever grossed was with the mill and a dispatcher system .and I was home weekends and midweek. The first 2 years I ran of load boards and a broker I knew personally.its very hard to consistently run of a.board .i ran up on a direct customer about 5 years ago and don't use load boards anymore.

If the rates on the "company" loadboard are low then failure is imminent. Also, lots of these places talk operators up in a MAJOR way selling them a pipe dream but once you're signed on it's another story.

That is very true.i think most who start at company's with load boards don't get is just because you pick your own freight doesn't mean there unlimited loads a lot of others are going after same load who ever calls first is the winner.its still true the best way to make $ at these companies is to get in good with agents that will call you and offer you the load before they post it.new guys have a very hard time surviving until they make a name for ther self.

Places like Malone will tell you that you'll get an average of $2.12 per mile "to the truck" but that's a play on words and incredibly misleading. First, their rates are below that number as a whole AND that's BEFORE they take their 25% bite out of it. The truth is, the owner operator will be lucky to see $1.60.

Also, they claim you'll get any "accessory" pay like tarping but that's also a lie. There is ZERO separate pay for tarping. Although they claim it's included in the rate when you ask about it. They like to pull the broker routine too by demanding everything be tarped even though the shipper nor the receiver requires it to be done on many loads.

Don't even get me started on how they lie about being non-forced dispatched, how you cannot do a true preplan, how they won't show the rate confirmations or how they claim to help with repairs. I could go on and on but I'll digress for now. I may start a new thread about my experience there in the future.

No offense but it's the drivers fault for not checking the trk out before they sign and agree to anything.

But what I'm hearing is you don't get to check trucks before signing the lease which sounds crazy

Still the owner's (driver) fault. If they cannot take it to a mechanic to do a full inspection and oil check and the like they should not be signing any contract.

I agree with you on that they should let you inspect and not be charged nothing til that truck is up to standard
