I bought the truck when it had 425,000 miles on it, but can't remember what the hours said. I'm thinking whoever had it before me idled quite a bit. I don't idle much other then letting it warm up and for loading and unloading in my line of work.

YOU CAN'T.
There are too many parts to an equation that you can't get unless you keep the records yourself.
Why is the question I have to ask. -
I would look at the hours as best idicator to the state off the engine (and to some part the gearbox)
-
Do the math, not hard.
If you're under 30mph average it's been idled excessively. A low idle truck will be 40+ mph average, great is 45+ -
Being one that knows how to drive makes a big difference, IMO. I have yet to put a drop of oil in my truck over the 10 years I've been in it.tony97905 Thanks this.

Yeah 30k hours is about the average max life of a engine.
If very well kept they can go twice that.Cw5110 Thanks this. -
Does this engine have an ecm on it?
-
Are you enjoying that Volvo?

Yes, it will--among many other things. I got one on every truck I ever looked at buying.swaggerjacker and KB3MMX Thank this.
