I bought the truck when it had 425,000 miles on it, but can't remember what the hours said. I'm thinking whoever had it before me idled quite a bit. I don't idle much other then letting it warm up and for loading and unloading in my line of work.

There are too many parts to an equation that you can't get unless you keep the records yourself.
Why is the question I have to ask. -
I would look at the hours as best idicator to the state off the engine (and to some part the gearbox)

Do the math, not hard.
If you're under 30mph average it's been idled excessively. A low idle truck will be 40+ mph average, great is 45+ -

Yeah 30k hours is about the average max life of a engine.
If very well kept they can go twice that.Cw5110 Thanks this. -
Does this engine have an ecm on it?
