For those of you who have used both of these electronic logging systems (E-log,ELD,EOBR), I am curious what pros and cons you would point out for each of them. (I am not referring to the perceived negative many would list about being required to use an electronic log in the first place!:p ) I am considering an option where I would have a choice between the two systems, and I am not familiar with J.J. Keller at all. I have only used the Qualcomm Omnitracs system at this point. Thanks!

(I wasn't sure where to post this thread. Mods, feel free to relocate it if appropriate.)

Paper logs versus Elogs? These forums are filled with either praises or howls.

I consider the Qualcomm a great communiation device back in the day, it has however morphed into a skynet of sorts, that truck is now literally alive to anything that might be wrong. If your key is in the ignition and your body weight is in the seat sensor it knows it and so does Dispatch. I think taken to extremes it will weigh your BMI and measure your blood saturation oxygen before allowing you to drive....

No thanks. I like my old iron.

I understand. However, I will be required to use one of the noted systems or the other. I am interested in knowing more so that I can make an informed choice between the two.

Go with the Qualcomm. Frankly there is no better if you are fleet owner and want to keep tabs on your drivers. Where is he is solved with a few strokes on the keyboard revealing location to 15 feet anywhere on the planet.

JJ keller is bluetooth and tablet based. You can also look at VDO Roadlog no monthly fee unless you want to use web based technology.

Since the JJK system is tablet or phone based, is constant access to cellular data necessary? I want the option to haul loads into Canada, but I have always turned off my cellular data because of the excessive cost. With the QC, that isn't a concern.

You have o0nly used one system, haven't been in a truck as a driver in over 10 years yet you still insist on giving uneducated advice. He probably is talking about one truck.

Personally I like the tablet based device. The one truck I drove with a qualcom I had to put my hat over it to see at night.

I worked with Fleetmatics and the only issue with not having cell service was it could not update the servers but it still kept your RODS. It updates when you get service again.

I am not familiar with Fleetmatics, but a Google search revealed that it is apparently a GPS tracking service. Are you saying that the JJK system worked with this tracking system? (I just wanted to be sure I understand what you are saying.)

No, just another service provider. Using a tablet based system.
