Well, I made the plunge. I enrolled at Truck Driver Institute in Forsyth GA. today. I have received a lot of great info from many on this board and would like to try to keep a diary for those who are thinking of doing the same thing. Like many that I've read before....we had 5 in our class to start and one left before we even went to the drug test. I'm guessing he wasn't going to pass. Did our DOT physicals, and starting going over the cdl manual for testing on Wed.
I have some questions for the crew here. They are pushing a lot of applications from companies that I know from reading on here aren't the best companies. I have already applied to Danny Herman Trucking based on the thread on this forum. I think they will be a good fit.
I would also like to apply to Abilene but on their website it says they don't hire new drivers?
I live near Savannah GA...looking to take my wife with me as soon as possible, and OTR is fine. Also possibly will team with my wife at a later date so the ability to be her trainer would be best.
Here are the apps they have given us...
Swift
Maverick
US Express
Schneider
TMC
Cypress Truck Lines
Stevens Transport
Covenant
Werner
TransAm
PTL
Boyd Brothers
McElroy Truck Lines
Comcar
Besides the top four I listed, and i'm not sure I want to do flatbed...are there any others worth applying for?
Also, with being in Rincon, GA, near Savannah, any other ideas of good companies that are not listed here that I should apply to?
Thanks for all your help.
Scott
Somehow this was dated yesterday. It was supposed to be today.

Millis Transfer is a good outfit, they have a school right there in Cartersville, Georgia small classes great place to get a start, once you get on a trainer's truck you're paid x amount

I attended TDI in ridhburg. They see awesome at that sit. If I had known better I would have done Millis
rbgtag Thanks this. -
Pretty sure Abilene DOES accept newbies though not on their website. Very few companies permit you to train your spouse.

I understand. Not wanting to train her right away. Will be at least a year down the road.

I spoke with a recruiter at Millis but because I live near savannah they said I was out of the hiring area. Needed to be nearer to Augusta.

I lived in Atlanta years ago and drove for FFE and Transport America though Savannah is quite a ways from there.
