Early 90's try the 70's. Most fuel in the 90'was around $1.

I have been at this a long time and I can't get used to how unqualified some of the new drivers are, I just shake my head and move on.

I'm not on e-logs. I'm on a Just-In-Time account for a very large manufacturing plant with charges of $8k per minute/hour (I forget which) if you shut down their production line. Mostly I don't want to work later than scheduled because I get no overtime pay and I don't want to cause next driver in my truck to start late, which causes me to start late the next day, which causes him to start late day after that...

If I am 30 minutes late getting back to the plant the traffic is like Baghdad. If I am on time the traffic at the plant is like a Corona beer commercial without the sunset or bikini.

    Tripple7 Thanks this.

    THAT is a problem.

In my day, door is opened, startled sleepy is on the cement with two choices. Park the truck way over there now or get splashed in desiel. That usually solves the issue prior to first blood.

    Tripple7 Thanks this.

I can go back towards the mid 60's and family stories date to world war two on the redball with twice the authroized gasoline jerry cans under Luftwaffe fire.

All of these things are out of your control. And since you can't control or change the situation don't let other people heap stress on you. Just in time is a horrible way to run a plant.(unless you love stress). Just do the best you can do and forget about the rest.

    x1Heavy and Tripple7 Thank this.

And why is that?I dont mean anything offensive .Its true, some drivers have been in this profession so long that they know every road, every state. They've had it with carriers, shps, receivers traffic other truckers ,they're bored with trucking ect ect
then they finally reach their boiling point. But they have bills so they stay trucking.I've talked to so many that can't wait to retire for good from this industry. They hate it with a passion.

    Tripple7 and x1Heavy Thank this.

I was solo OTR for 9 yrs and not once did I get bored with it and didn't let nothing bother me.But I quit OTR to take care of my mother. Then I went local and hated it big time. For me I can't think of anything more boring, predictable and routine then local hauling which I highly doubt I'll ever do again.Compared to many of the drivers I'm considered a newbie but I tell you what it didn't take me 30 some yrs to say I hate trucken. For me it's also the many policies carriers have and all the laws that makes me so glad I'm not driving anymore.
